Willie Moore on a lifetime in Ballybeg
‘An impressive programme of extensions and improvement in Waterford is foreshadowed in the Estimates of expenditure for 1974 (1st April to 31st Dec.)…The City Manager’s (Michael Doody) statement says that this programme involves, on the local authority housing side, the completion of 126 houses at Lisduggan and the erection of 378 weekly tenancy houses at Kilbarry/Ballybeg. Work on the development of the latter has already started and it is expected that the actual construction work on the first phase of 220 houses will commence in the course of a couple of weeks through the National Building Agency. The houses conform to the newly announced regulations made by the Minister for Local Government i.e. they will have one fireplace for solid fuel and will, in addition, be centrally heated’ - The Waterford News & Star, March 8, 1974
