WATCH: Gilbert and Avu remembered on a sombre evening

Men, women, children, and young friends genuine in their outpouring of grief turned up for a vigil and balloon releasing ceremony to mark the tragic deaths of two local teenagers – 15-year-old Gilbert Collins and his 17-year-old friend Avu Idris on Friday evening last.
The two much-loved boys from Ardmore Park and nearby Crystal Mews respectively died when the e-scooter that they were travelling on collided with a bus on Thursday morning that ultimately claimed the lives of the youngsters, who have been fondly remembered within the local community.
Amid poignant scenes outside the Ardmore Park house in Ballybeg where Gilbert grew up with brothers Albert and Marvelous and his sister Precious, members of the families were present as hundreds of balloons were released into the blue skies overhead.
Youngsters hugged and embraced each other as the two popular boys were remembered by those close to them with balloons representing their ages also released. As young and old stood side-by-side, there was a spontaneous applause as the balloons were put to the skies above.

It’s believed that youth groups within the Ballybeg area are to open their doors for any of the young people within the Ballybeg community where both Gilbert and Avu lived that may be affected by the events of the last number of days.
One parent commented: “It’s just so sad for everyone. We are a tight-knit community here in Ballybeg and we all want to be there for both families. We also want to look out for the many friends of not only the two boys, but of their siblings as well. It’s just heartbreaking.”
“It’s just so tragic. They were just two lovely lads and life seems unfair,” commented a lady who added: “I think that when a tragedy like this happens on your own doorstep, it really puts life into perspective. God help their families and the poor bus driver as well.”
Gilbert will be laid to rest in nearby Kilbarry Cemetery after a prayer service at noon on Tuesday with Avu Idris funeral arrangements yet to be confirmed.
