Local Notes: Sadness of community after teenagers' deaths, Ballybeg events, birthday wishes and more

Flowers laid for the late Gilbert Collins and Avu Idris at the scene of the e-scooter accident on the Cork Road.
Our community was plunged into sadness last week when the news came through that two young lads from our community had been killed in a terrible accident.
They were named as Gilbert Collins, Ardmore Park, age 15 years. His remains lay in repose at Tom Hennessy’s Funeral home on Monday, July 1, and following a funeral service at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 2, Gilbert was laid to rest in Kilbarry cemetery.
We offer our deepest sympathy to his parents Bobby and Ronke, his brothers Albert Collins and Marvillous Okin and his sister Precious Okin, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, neighbours and friends.
His friend who died later in the day following the same accident, is Avuzwa Idris, Crystal Mews, Cork Road, age 17 years.
His remains lay in repose at the Maranatha Christian Community Church, Poleberry, on Wednesday, July 3, where a memorial service took place.
Avuzwa’s Funeral Service took place on Thursday, July 4, in the Maranatha Christian Community Church followed by removal to Kilbarry cemetery for burial.
We offer our deepest sympathy to his parents Fatah and Priscilla, brothers Mury, Nur and Adam, sisters Noora and Aminah, uncles Kasim and Yusuf, extended family, relatives and many friends.
The boys were great friends and had a love of sports, especially soccer where both played with their clubs and teams; Gilbert with Waterford Crystal FC and Avu with Villa FC, and they were also supporters of Waterford FC.
Both were very popular young men and were liked by everyone who knew them in school and in sport. They were coming back from the gym when tragedy struck them.
We also remember in our thoughts and prayers the bus driver.
