Sadie Harpur

Dublin-born author, Sadie Harpur, stopped off in Waterford at the weekend to promote new new book on local radio.

However, Sadie will return to the south east on Saturday, April 20, when she will sign copies of the book in Hubb 16, in New Ross, Co Wexford. The book is also available to buy in the Book Centre in Waterford.

At both events Sadie was accompanied by renowned author and music critic, Jackie Hayden who helped Sadie write her book on account of her dyslexia. Hayden previously topped the book charts with two editions of ‘My Boy’, about the late rock star Philip Lynott and is a well-known music writer and lecturer.

‘In The Hidden World of a Foster-Girl’, details how one Irish woman survived the Irish Foster Care system before becoming an inspiration for others who suffered as she did. She endured serious teenage problems, including self-harming, violent outbursts, zero self-esteem, and the eventual suicide of her foster-brother, Gary.

Speaking about the book, Sadie said: “Writing ‘The Hidden World of a Foster-Girl’ was hugely therapeutic. It helped me look deep into my past and unlock thoughts and experiences I had hidden away in dark places.”

“The experience also gave me the confidence to start recording podcasts about my life for the Irish Foster Care Association,” she said.

One of those podcasts, with Niamh Barrett, is available on Spotify and Apple titled ‘Stories From Foster Care’.

“I've recorded another for the Being Brilliant series hosted by Mairead Vaughan,” said Sadie.
