A new local office offering employment support to the Traveller and Roma communities has been announced for Waterford
A new local office for Traveller and Roma employment support has been announced for Waterford, as part of a major expansion of the Traveller and Roma Local Employment Initiative scheme.
Eight new local offices will be established across the country as part of the expansion, across Dublin, Limerick, Longford, Offaly, Wexford and Waterford.
The initiative provides members of the Traveller and Roma communities with practical, locally based employment and training supports, and will work with Buíon Phort Láirge (trading name for Waterford Area Partnership CLG) to bring these supports to Waterford.
Liam Quinn, CEO of Buíon Phort Láirge told the News and Star they are delighted with the news and the chance to build on their already successful work with the Roma Community under their existing Atelier and Health projects.
He added that in working collaboratively with Mincéiri Portlairge (Waterford Traveller Community Development Project), the new initiative will help to expand Buíon Phort Láirge's resources in supporting the Traveller Community.
The project staff for the new initiative in Waterford will be recruited in the coming weeks, Buíon Phort Láirge confirmed.
This expansion will more than double the number of TRLEI offices nationwide, from six to fourteen offices now focused on addressing the disproportionately high levels of unemployment and underemployment experienced by Travellers in Ireland.
