Fine Gael candidate John Cummins said he expects to be elected on the next count. The Senator is currently sitting at 10,719 votes, falling just 12 votes short of the 10,731 vote quota.

Labour's Sadhbh O'Neill may be out this time but it's not the end for the first-time candidate

The sixth count has now been completed at Waterford Count Centre at SETU's Cork Road campus. The transfer of Frank Conway's votes is now underway.

Labour candidate Sadhbh O'Neill is not out yet, but the tallies are not in her favour. That has not dampened the first-time candidate's spirits.

Green Party General Election candidate Marc Ó Cathasaigh is not expected to get re-elected in Waterford, even with just one seat filled so far.

David Cullinane has said that Sinn Féin are 'in the hunt' for a second seat in Waterford, following his own election in count one.  Cullinane said it will be close between running mate Conor McGuinness and Independent Matt Shanahan.

Celebrations for Sinn Féin in Waterford 

Fianna Fáil candidate and Minister of State Mary Butler said she was delighted with the number of votes the final tally indicates she has received. Tallies indicate that Butler received 9,894 first preference votes.

People Before Profit candidate Patrick Curtin has picked up approximately 1. 2% of the tallied votes, with count one due to commence shortly.

With 100% of the tallies complete, Labour’s Sadhbh O’Neill has picked up approximately 2. 7% of the total vote across the city and county.

John Cummins (Fine Gael) currently has 19% of the vote in Waterford, with approximately 96% of the boxes opened.

"It's going to be a fight between Matt Shanahan and Conor McGuinness for the last seat," says Mayor of Waterford and Fianna Fáil Councillor Jason Murphy.

70% of the total boxes have now been opened at the count centre at SETU. Early indications show Sinn Féin with 34. 43% of the tally, followed by Fine Gael at 18. 96% and Fianna Fáil at 18. 04%.

Sinn Féin are confident of a good result in Waterford following strong early tally performance, says Sinn Féin candidate David Cullinane.  The party believe they are in contention for a two seat result. “We think it’s going very well.

Some initial turnout numbers are available for polling stations in Waterford. Percentages are as of 3pm and stand as follows: St Mary's in Ballygunner: 26. 6%  Farranshoneen the youth centre: 23.
