Following criticism of General Election candidate Matt Shanahan’s campaign strategy, using the Dunmore Wing of UHW which houses Waterford Hospice, he has also faced criticism for shining his campaign message on the SETU building on the Cork Road in Waterford.

Passersby noted the deputy’s projection Tuesday evening.

Mr Shanahan told the Waterford News & Star that there is no issue with him projecting onto SETU.

“I have given very, very significant support to SETU. I didn’t see why I would need permission but if I do I would say mea culpa,” said Mr Shanahan.

Mr Shanahan said that his approach is more environmentally friendly than traditional campaign displays.

Most campaign posters and literature contain plastic, he said which will have to be burned.

His projection, however, is waste-free.

“I think most people would think it was progressive,” said Mr Shanahan

The Waterford News & Star reached out to SETU for comment.

A spokesperson for SETU said: “SETU does not take a position or express a view on the political activities or campaigns of any individual.”
