With 100% of the tallies complete, Labour’s Sadhbh O’Neill has picked up approximately 2.7% of the total vote across the city and county.
Speaking with Labour councillor Seamus Ryan, he assured that O’Neill will return should she not get elected this weekend:
“She’s coming in at around 3% which is a little bit below what we would have liked, however we have to put this into perspective, Sadhbh is a new candidate, only three months in the field.
“I’ve been going around canvassing with her and she really did a very good campaign at the doors and she’s very knowledgeable on all the issues.
“It just wasn’t to be for her this time, but talking to Sadhbh I’ll be telling her that we’ll look at this as a two election strategy and that she’ll come back in the next election. Whether it's the next general election or local election, I know Sadhbh O’Neill will be there for Labour in Waterford.
“It's not the end of Sadhbh O’Neill, it’s only the start and I’m looking forward to working with her.”
