Fianna Fáil candidate and Minister of State Mary Butler said she was delighted with the number of votes the final tally indicates she has received. Tallies indicate that Butler received 9,894 first preference votes.
“I’m very happy with the results so far, it has exceeded the vote I received in 2020," the Fianna Fáil candidate said, "This is the third time I have asked the people of Waterford City and County for their trust and they have rewarded me again.”
“I want to thank every one of them and to thank my family, my staff and the great team I have had around me for the last two months. They have done everything I could have asked for. It is an emotional day for people,” she said.
The last few weeks have been going from door to door, it’s just canvas, canvas, canvas, getting out to the doors, so I am just so proud.”
The Minister of State thanked her Director of Elections, Councillor John O’Leary, and her husband, Mick Butler, who acted as her campaign manager, as well as the volunteers and permanent staff in her constituency offices.
“Every one of them was fully involved in this, and the feather in the cap is that I ran a purely grassroots campaign – we knocked on thousands of doors, we met thousands of people.
“My understanding from the tally is that we got somewhere close to 9,500 to 10,000 votes so I’m really, really pleased about that.”
