Sinn Féin are confident of a good result in Waterford following strong early tally performance, says Sinn Féin candidate David Cullinane.
The party believe they are in contention for a two seat result.
“We think it’s going very well. We think our share of the vote is holding up close to where we got the last time,” Deputy Cullinane said, speaking at the Waterford Count Centre.
“Obviously it’s split between two candidates this time, which is what we wanted.”
“Looking at the city boxes, I’m polling very strongly and in Dungarvan and those areas, Conor McGuinness is polling exceptionally well.”
“It puts us in contention for the second seat,” he said crediting the early signs of a strong performance on getting their “vote management strategy right.”
He said it was too early to make any predictions but said he could see the “one-twos” across the county.
Getting the two seats in Waterford is top of Sinn Féin's mind, Cullinane said he would be "absolutely delighted if we can get it over the line.” Cullinane isn’t nervous, "largely, to be honest, I feel like once the hard work is done, it’s up to the people. Now we just have to see what’s in the boxes.”
