Pedestrian crossing in Ballymacarbry

Touraneena Runner’s Club

The attendance has been great so far for our Predict Your Time League. Last week’s winner on the night was Michelle, and Mary was our lucky dip winner. Well done to both. Week 4 is being kindly sponsored by Michelle Guiry MG Active and Conor Phelan Construction. There is a €30 for the winner and €30 for the lucky dip draw. Don’t forget your Hi-vis and torch. See you on Monday evening.

Sympathy

We extend our sympathy to the Dempsey and Wall families on the passing of Kathleen Dempsey (née: Wall), Colligan, following a short illness. Kathleen dedicated many years of her life to caring for others through her work as a nurse and her kindness and service will be fondly remembered. We extend our sincere sympathy to her children Eimear and Seán, her partner Jim, son-in-law Stephen, daughter-in-law Aisling, grandsons Ciarán, Eoghan, Samuel and Sonny, sisters Maureen, Breed and Pauline, brothers Seán, Eamon and Mike, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and all her wonderful friends. Funeral mass for Kathleen was in St. Anne’s Church, Colligan, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. May Kathleen rest in peace.

Sliabh gCua Lotto

The lotto numbers 4,13,23 were the jackpot numbers drawn last Sunday night. No winner. The five x €20 winners were Damian Quirke, Julie Skehan, Tom Casey, Kathleen Connors and Tom Foley. The promoter’s prize was won by Marion Cliffe. Next week’s jackpot is €500.

Sympathy

We extend our sympathy to the Walsh Family on the recent passing of Anthony Walsh, Silversprings, Dungarvan and formerly of Crough, Colligan. Anthony was predeceased by his parents Margaret and John. All his life, Anthony had a passion for GAA. He was a stalwart of the Colligan GAA club and an honorary lifelong member. He gave a lifetime of service, not only to Colligan but to Cuman Luthchleas Gael. That was reflected by the Guard of Honour for Anthony outside Páirc An Coilligeáin, which was formed by Colligan and St. Pats GAA/LGFA Juvenile GAA Clubs. We extend our sincere sympathy to Anthony’s wife Patsy, sons Richard, Alan and Kenneth, daughter Antoinette, daughters-in-law Andrea, Aoife and Michelle, son-in-law David, grandchildren Hannah, Seán, Rebecca, Lucy, Clodagh, Ronan and Grace, brothers Francis and Seán, sister Breda and their families, extended family and many friends. Requiem mass was in St. Mary’s Parish Church, Dungarvan, followed by burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Colligan. May Anthony rest in peace.

Sliabh gCua/St.Mary’s GAA Club

Commiserations to Sliabh gCua on their recent defeat to Colligan Emmets in the Intermediate Western Final. Final Score: Colligan Emmets 5-12, Sliabh gCua 3-9. Sliabh gCua battled bravely throughout showing great heart and determination but it was Colligan who emerged victorious on the day. Congratulations to Colligan Emmets on a historic win, securing the Western Championship title for the first time in the club’s history.

Appeal To Road Users

It is deeply concerning that we must raise this issue yet again but we have reached a breaking point with the continued disregard for the pedestrian crossing in the village of Ballymacarbry. This morning we received yet another report of drivers failing to stop while pedestrians were waiting to cross. Shockingly, instead of following the rules of the road, the drivers in question waved at the waiting pedestrians, as though that were an acceptable substitute for stopping. It is not. Pedestrian crossings exist to protect lives. Every road user whether driving, walking, or cycling deserves to be treated with respect and afforded the safety they are entitled to. We are urging all drivers to take responsibility. Please have conversations with your family, friends, and community members about this issue. We need your help to put a stop to this dangerous behaviour before someone is seriously injured. Let’s work together to restore safety and respect on our roads. A moment’s attention and care can prevent a lifetime of regret.

Riddle For The Week

Last week’s riddle was: Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Answer: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. This week’s riddle is: If a rooster laid an egg on the left side of the house, which way would it roll? Answer in this column next week.
