The Portlaw Camogie Club U16 players
Residents have expressed their disgust after human faeces were deliberately left on the children's slide at Portlaw Park Playground. Sadly, one child came into contact with it before it was discovered and removed. The playground is a valued community amenity used by many local families and this type of behaviour has been widely condemned. Thanks were extended to two local women who cleaned, bleached and disinfected the slide to ensure it was safe for children once again. The Gardaí have been notified and residents in the Connolly Road area are asked to check any CCTV or doorbell camera footage that may assist in identifying those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact Councillor Declan Clune or An Garda Síochána.
Family and friends of Eddie are organising a 5km memorial walk on Sunday, August 16, in aid of the Kidney Association. The walk will start from the Square in Portlaw and continue through Curraghmore Estate. All support will be greatly appreciated.
The following anniversaries were remembered at Mass in Portlaw on Saturday, July 25: Jim O'Connor, Tommy O'Connor, Michael O'Connor, Bernie Hogan and Geoffrey Cullen. Michael (Girders) Walsh was also remembered on the occasion of his 90th birthday remembrance. Nellie Drydon's Month's Mind Mass will take place on Saturday, August 1, at 6pm. Congratulations to Amelia, who received the Player of the Match award following the U12 County Final.
It was wonderful to see her teammates standing together in support as she received her award.
The gesture highlighted the strong team spirit and friendship that exists within the group and demonstrated the true values of camogie.
Well done to the Portlaw U16 camogie team, who were narrowly defeated by Mollerans in their County Quarter Final. Although losing by just two points, the girls produced an excellent performance and showed tremendous determination throughout, particularly in the second half. The talent, commitment and teamwork displayed by all 18 players was a credit to the club and bodes well for the future.
Congratulations to the Premier Intermediate hurlers, who defeated Tallow on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-15 to make it three wins from three and finish top of their group.
Finishing in first place means the team progresses directly to the County Semi Final, which will be played on the weekend of August 14 to 16. Their opponents will be decided following the remaining preliminary quarter-finals and quarter-finals. Well done to all the players and management team on a superb achievement.
