Local Notes: Irish night, road racing, set dancing and much more

Scór na bPáistí: The county final will be held on Sunday, March 23, at 2pm in the Cappoquin Community Centre. Every primary school and club has singers, dancers, storytellers, musicians and quizmasters. All are welcome to come along and support our local boys and girls.
We are delighted to announce that our Liverpool friends at the Bolger Cunningham school of Dancing, will be coming to Dungarvan from April 11 to 14. This is an exchange that has been going on for 47 years and it is their first time returning since before the pandemic. We invite everyone to our ‘Irish Night’ of music, song and dance which will take place on Sunday night, April 13, in the Park Hotel in Dungarvan at 8pm. There will be live music, Céilí dancing and performances from both the Sliabh gCua dancers and the Bolger Cunningham dancers. The entry fee is €5 for adults and €10 for families.
The jackpot numbers drawn last Sunday night were 25, 27, 30 and there was no winner. The five x €20 winners were Gillian Curley, Joseph, Roisin, Caoimhe and Sinead Connors, Tony and Robbie, Tom Tobin and Sharon Cliffe. The promoter’s prize of €20 was won by Marian Cliffe. Next week’s jackpot draw will be for €1,500.
Time to dust off the runners and come out and have some fun as 'Gaelic For Mothers And Others' comes to Ballymacarbry. The initiative sees women aged 25 and over playing Gaelic football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment; a social outlet for one hour per week with a bit of football too. We encourage those who have played before and those who haven't. All are welcome to participate and have some fun. For more information or to register interest, please contact Eimear 087 6194404. Our first night will take place on Thursday, March 6, at 9pm. The cost is only €3 each night and we are looking forward to forming our first Gaelic for Mothers and Others team.
Hosted by the West Waterford Athletic Club on Sunday, March 2, at 12 noon, the Munster Road Racing Championship for senior novice and masters will be held in Ballinameela. The Ballinameela Community Hall (X35 S280) will be the race headquarters. A great days racing is promised with the ladies and men’s distances, both over four miles of the Ballinameela 5k race circuit, making up most of the race course. There will be Munster medals for Novice, Senior Masters, and all age categories individual top three. Club entries opening soon at www.eventmaster.ie
'The Weir' was a huge hit in Ballymacarbry Community Centre. A huge crowd attended in the theatre hall for what was an absolutely fabulous performance by the Brideview Drama Tallow. It was standing room only as this award-winning amateur drama group took to the stage. One could hear a pin drop throughout the entire performance as these hugely talented group of actors captivated the audience in what was a night that will be remembered for a long time in Ballymacarbry. From the amazing set, sound, lighting and acting, Brideview Drama Tallow are an amateur drama group in name only and it is easy to understand how this group receive so many accolades. Huge thanks to director Jack Aherne and his entire crew for bringing this special night to Ballymacarbry Community Centre.
