The Obelisk at Christ Church, Tramore, in memory of the Sea Horse tragedy.

Stagemad Theatre Company will present it's production of 'The Sea Horse Tragedy'.

The show will be staged on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 25, 26 and 27, in the Coastguard Cultural Centre, in Tramore.

The show will honour the those lost and those who survived the sinking of 'The Sea Horse', in the bay of Tramore on Tuesday, January 39, 1816.

It was an infamous maritime tragedy in which 363 men, women and children perished.

The tragedy remains one of Ireland’s worst maritime disasters.

It occurred in the daytime and the shore was crowded with people who were unable to help due to the stormy seas.

In the forthcoming production, the story of the shipwreck, taken from actual survivors' accounts, will be told by actors.

These are the voices from more than 200 years ago.

James Power, of Stagemad Theatre Company, has adapted and edited this human tragedy for the stage.

Speaking about the production recently, James expressed gratitude to the Coastguard Cultural Centre for collaborating with the theatre company to present the telling of what was a truly devastating tale.

"The shipwreck is a story of huge loss but also resilience, in bringing the tragedy to the stage we honour them all," he said.

"Being a Tramore native, I felt compelled to undertake a chapter of our history that will never be forgotten," added James.

There is a lot of interest in the story and tickets for the forthcoming show are currently on sale and are selling fast.

Those interested in going along should book their tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Capacity is also limited and ticket bookings for the show can be made through gr8events.ie
