Serious road safety concerns in County Waterford village

Pedestrian crossing in Ballymacarbry
An appeal has been made in a County Waterford village for motorists to abide by the rules of the road at a pedestrian crossing before someone is injured or worse.
There is growing concern in the Ballymacarbry area arising out of ongoing issues with how motorists drive through the village and in particular with regard to the local pedestrian crossing.
One local commented: "It is deeply concerning that we must raise this issue yet again but we have reached a breaking point with the continued disregard for the pedestrian crossing in the village of Ballymacarbry."
"This morning we received yet another report of drivers failing to stop while pedestrians were waiting to cross," said the local.
"Shockingly, instead of following the rules of the road, the drivers in question waved at the waiting pedestrians, as though that were an acceptable substitute for stopping. It is not."
Locals pointed out that pedestrian crossings exist to protect lives and that every road user whether driving, walking or cycling deserves to be treated with respect and afforded the safety they are entitled to.
"We are urging all drivers to take responsibility," said the local resident.
"Please have conversations with your family, friends, and community members about this issue," added the resident.
"We need your help to put a stop to this dangerous behaviour before someone is seriously injured. Let’s work together to restore safety and respect on our roads. A moment’s attention and care can prevent a lifetime of regret."
