Waterford no longer the South East county with the highest number of homeless adults

Tipperary has overtaken Waterford as the South East county with the highest number of adults in emergency accommodation.

The Monthly Homelessness Report from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage shows 105 adults in emergency accommodation in Waterford and 119 in Tipperary.

Tipperary overtook Waterford in May with 119, which remained unchanged in June’s Report and was a significant increase from the April figure of 98.

Waterford has seen a reduction in the number of adults in emergency accommodation in the first half of this year.

The average number of adults in emergency accommodation per month in Waterford for the first six months of this year was 107 compared to 117 in the same period of last year.

Tipperary’s monthly average for the first six months of this year currently sits at 111 compared to just 75 in the same period of last year.

Across the South East, 361 adults were in emergency accommodation.

Forty-one of those were in Wexford, 47 in Carlow and 49 in Kilkenny.

Wexford was the same as the month before; Carlow saw a reduction while Kilkenny had a small increase.

According to the report, 79 families were homeless, including 119 children.

That brings the total number of people in emergency accommodation in the South East in June to 480.
