One Councillor asked if there was a recorded increase in illegal dumping.

Councillors in Waterford have voiced concern over a suspected rise in illegal dumping around Dungarvan. At a recent meeting, Councillor John Pratt asked the Executive if the Environmental Team had recorded an increase in illegal dumping. He said: "Looking at the environment complaints, number one problem, no surprise, is illegal dumping. Has illegal dumping increased in your opinion, over the last while? It's just despicable what we're seeing."

Fellow Labour Councillor Thomas Phelan asked if consideration could be given to installing CCTV in the worst affected areas. He explained: "Running from the entrance from Estuary Heights up from Shandon Road towards Dempsey's Bridge. There's a stretch of that road with no houses, and therefore no surveillance on it, so it's a black spot for littering and dumping."

Senior Executive Officer Dawn Wallace said that the Council are reviewing the efficacy of CCTV on illegal dumping, stating: "We'll have some more feedback on that moving forward."
