Waterford Suir Valley Railway share heartfelt tribute to Way Inspector on his passing

The Waterford Suir Valley Railway in Kilmeaden have paid tribute to their Way Inspector, Jamie Coleman, on his passing.

Mr Coleman of Stradbally and formally of Kilmacthomas passed away on Thursday, August 20.

His funeral Mass took place on Monday, August 24 at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Faha.

In a post on social media, the railway group said that Mr Coleman had been a volunteer since 2021 and had a long career at Irish Rail.

“We were very fortunate to have Jamie on board as our Permanent Way Inspector, as he brought with him a wealth of knowledge; his expertise had been passed down through the generations.

He worked tirelessly maintaining the rails at the station to ensure everything ran smoothly and safely for daily operations. He was an invaluable member of our crew. He generously gave his time & expertise to all work carried out.

He was a treasured friend and colleague. Jamie passed away after a short illness.

He will be greatly missed by all the crew at the railway; we will miss the Wednesday chats & cups of tea.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Coleman family, to his sister Margaret, brothers David & Tomás, his nephew, nieces, grandnephews & grandnieces, extended family & friends.

“We will join them to remember Jamie and celebrate the special man he was on Monday morning, August 24.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam,” wrote the group.
