Person and cat rescued from river in Waterford City

Waterford Marine Search and Rescue assisted a person and cat who got into difficulty in the Suir this weekend.

In a post on social media, Waterford Marine Search and Rescue said that the cat got into difficulty first by the Marina Hotel.

A person entered the water in an effort to rescue it.

“Thankfully, both the member of the public and the cat were brought safely from the water by WMSAR.

"We would like to thank the member of the public for their concern for the animal and are very glad that everyone involved is safe following the incident,” wrote WMSR.

WMSR thanked the Irish Coast Guard, gardaí and Waterford CRBI who also provided assistance.

“Incidents like today demonstrate the importance of the different emergency services working together to achieve a safe and successful outcome.

"We would also remind everyone that entering the water to attempt a rescue can quickly place you in danger yourself. If you see a person or animal in difficulty in or around the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

A great outcome today, with everyone — including our four-legged casualty — safely back on dry land,” wrote WMSR.
