Increase in burglaries in County Waterford

The Gardaí are investigating a number of burglaries in County Waterford

The Gardaí said there was an increase in the number of burglaries in areas of County Waterford over the last week.

A spokesperson for the force told Waterford News & Star: "Over the last week we have seen an increase in burglaries in the county and the crime unit at Dungarvan are seeking the public assistance with three that occurred on the 4th to 5th of September."

The first incident occurred in Farnane Upper, Modeligo, between September 4 and 5, when a house was broken into. The intruders gained entry through the rear of the property and the house was ransacked.

The Gardaí believe some of items stolen were disposed of as the person or persons responsible made their escape from the property. 

"The Gardaí would be interested in any such items," said the spokesperson.

The second burglary occurred in Glendaloughin, Ballymacarbry, where a newly placed mobile home on a site was broken into. The crime was discovered on September 5, at around 7.30pm.

The third burglary occurred at around 5pm on September 5, in the Crooked Bridge area of Moneygorm, with the occupant in present.

Gardaí in Dungarvan are looking to trace the driver of a blue Volkswagen Tigan people carrier, or similar type of vehicle, which was observed in the area at the time. The vehicle was observed travelling towards Lismore on the R668.

"If you were travelling the area and have dashcam footage please contact the Crime Unit at Dungarvan Garda Station," said the spokesperson.
