A very novel form of bingo saw one of the participants try to make good its escape in Waterford recently.

Chicken Bingo was one of the attractions on-site at a community day in Tourin but while at first the feathered friends were willing to carry out their duty of pooping on numbers placed on the floor of a hen run they soon got fed up and the 'Number 2s' dried up.

However, one of the participants saw the chance and tried to fly the coup but thankfully the escape attempt was thwarted.

The Chicken Bingo concept was straight forward - a chick run was set up with numbered squares and as one of the organisers commented: "All the chickens had to do was look interesting and poop."

Those in attendance had to buy a square and hope the chickens 'felt the need' as they walked across it.

If the chicken pooped on your square, you got a grand prize of €10, which a good return on a €2 punt.

However, coming towards the end of the bingo the four chickens involved appeared to go on strike but they did excel at prancing around and preening for onlookers.

There were no feathers on one of the participants, however, as it tried to escape but was soon returned to the safety of the coup.

In the end it was humans who saved the day with a volunteer member of the public picking out the winning number.
