Waterford makers celebrate Craft Month

August Craft Month returns
This year, August Craft Month returns with a packed programme of over 400 events across all corners of the country.
Local Waterford makers such as Siobhán Joyce and Suzan McCreadle will be involved in the celebrations and events.
August Craft Month celebrates a rich craft heritage with artisans keeping ancient traditions alive and new talented makers bringing real vibrancy to the scene.
The programme provides opportunities to experience, participate in, support, buy and learn about the local stand-out craft sector.
Locals interested, can join Siobhán Joyce on August 2, for a workshop at Curragh Bay Beach and experience ceramic making outdoors in this special family edition of Cré Wanderings.
The immersive coastal experience is designed for kids aged seven plus and young teens, participating by an adult family member or guardian.
Explore your creativity together as you learn how to make ceramics inspired by the natural surroundings.
By the end of the workshop, guests will have handcrafted a unique piece to take home or leave with Siobhán be fired into ceramic and collected later.
Additionally, a four week ceramic handbuilding class for adult beginners and improvers interested in learning how to make a range of ceramics will be available in Lismore this year for those who are interested.
During this project block, participants will learn to make a variety of cups and mugs using hand-building techniques and add a personal touch to their pieces through decoration.
At the end of the block, four of your favourite pieces will be glazed and fired for you to enjoy at home.
In a workshop taking place at the Friendship Café at Coffee House Lane in Waterford City, guests can create symbolic art that represents each participant’s personal journey of change and growth, with accommodations for those with limited dexterity.
Each session begins with a guided meditation focused on transformation, encouraging everyone to reflect on their personal journeys and the challenges of change.
Afterward, you’ll have the opportunity to journal your thoughts and share them with the group, fostering meaningful family discussions and deeper connections.
By the end of the workshop, guests will have crafted a wound-up butterfly in a matchbox, symbolizing the act of breaking free from constraints and embracing change.
