The latest 'Life and Songs' gig has been unveiled, celebrating the legacy of one of Ireland's most beloved folk heroes, Luke Kelly of the Dubliners.
On May 30 and May 31, in the Coastguard Cultural Centre, Tramore, Theatre Vamps will pay tribute to Kelly, with local artist Derek Flynn celebrating the life, legacy, and unmistakable voice of the folk legend.
The show will bring to life the spirit of the man whose music captured the struggles, joys, and resilience of the Irish people, and whose passion still echoes through generations. With a fiery red beard, a booming voice, and a heart that beat for the working class, Kelly’s music was deeply rooted in truth and tradition.
A founding member of The Dubliners, he helped bring Irish folk music to global audiences, breathing new life into old ballads and introducing fresh protest songs to the canon.
The upcoming gig honours his unforgettable interpretations of folk standards, with songs that continue to resonate in today's world.
With storytelling that sheds light on the man behind the music, this show is a journey through the heart of Ireland’s musical soul and one of its greatest voices.
From the haunting beauty of 'Raglan Road', to the rousing power of 'The Auld Triangle', and pub favourites like 'Whiskey in the Jar' and 'The Wild Rover'.
Poignant numbers like 'Scorn Not His Simplicity' and 'The Town I Loved So Well' will also form part of the show that revisits the songs that made Luke a legend.
No tribute to Luke Kelly would be complete without 'Dirty Old Town', or 'Joe Hill', the protest anthem that showcased his commitment to social justice.
The Life and Songs series has so far celebrated the legacy of defining artists such as Bob Dylan, Amy Winehouse, Fleetwood Mac and more
