Irish films to look forward to at this years Queer Vision

Pride of the Déise 2024 has a great lineup
Irish films to look forward to at this years Queer Vision

Pregnant with a Drag Queen

Nothing impacts quite like seeing authentic representation on the big screen. This Year’s Queer Vision aims to bring just that, with a selection of shorts from across the LGBTQ+ community. This year, over half of the offerings are from Irish filmmakers, sharing stories that particularly resonate with the Irish Queer community.

Homofónia

From Waterford’s Alana Daly Mulligan and Co-writer Luke Murphy, it follows a closeted couple who work through their relationship drama as Gaeilge to keep their relationship a secret. However, translation issues abound and the debs is fast approaching.

Pregnant With A Drag Queen

A surreal charting of the origin of Dublin drag artist Veda, this comedy drama explores how an alter ego can lead to self discovery. According to Director Colin Brady this celebration of an Irish drag icon is “a story from which people can learn from. It’s a real roller coaster of a story that I hope both entertains and inspires audiences.”

Normal

Created as part of the Irish Queer Archive's 2024 exhibition "50 Years of Pride and Protest: the Irish LGBTQ+ Movement", Caoimhghín Ó hEoghusa's film 'Normáilte' explores the experience of growing up queer, and links it to the growth of the LGBTQ+ movement in Ireland over the last 50 years.

Glitterbug

Tania Notaro’s directorial debut tells the story of two female DJs who have their dreams of making it big shattered when one of them is diagnosed with AIDS. Tania looks to centre the experience of women and pay homage to those who’s experience was overlooked.

Terratoma

Directed by Liadán Roche, Terratoma sees a trans woman tries to recreate a traumatic relationship for a film project.

Queer Vision will screen 13 short films from Ireland and the world across two days; on Wednesday 29th of May there will be a screening in Waterford Gallery of Art and on Thursday the 30th of May the final screenings, panel talks and the Queer Vision 2024 award ceremony takes place at Bank Lane. Tickets can be reserved at prideofthedeise.com/queer-vision
