What can Waterford do better?

Local elections are around the corner and candidates are actively canvassing, engaging with residents to gather insights on the improvements or additions they desire for Waterford.
Similarly, the Waterford News & Star took to the streets of the city last week to do the very same thing - to get an idea of what improvements or changes locals would like to see in the area.
James Lannigan said: “I think there’s not enough cycle lanes and there should be more, that would go a long way.
“If you cycle on the road the traffic is on top of you and its dangerous, but if you cycle on the footpath people will get mad at you, so more designated cycle lanes are badly needed. A while ago the mayor of London got more cycle lanes for the city, and everybody is happy over there. So they should do it there."
Johnny Cleary added: “There’s a lot more work to be done within the community, and a lot of areas that need to be sorted out.
"The council need to work together with communities. This is one of the best cities in Ireland, and all it needs is another little push."
Sarah Jane and Jane Cleary added: “I think locals need to be communicated with more to sustain community engagement and spirit.”
An inner-city local who preferred to remain anonymous, said that new developments are welcome, however more should be done to facilitate residents. She said: “There’s no community dividends for residents of the inner city, with the Apple Market in particular.
"I’m looking forward to new development proposed for Lady Lane, but I’d like the residents of the inner city to be considered more."
Finally, Trish Flynn and Orla Browne said they would like to see new shops in Waterford, the youth of the city catered to more, and increased support for local sports clubs.
