Letter to the Editor: Phoenix's steadfast defence of Waterford
Well done to Phoenix for his steadfast and relentless defence of Waterford.
Dear Editor,
Well done to Phoenix for his steadfast and relentless defence of Waterford and evisceration of the Government parties treatment of our great City. It makes me wonder why we keep electing TDs from the two “Fine Failures”, the two parties that run the Government and systematically seem to want to downgrade Waterford. Is it not time to deliver a message to them by kicking them completely out of the constituency at the next election? They seem to be against any positive substantial advances for our city and county.
I feel sorry for the Waterford female TD, whose main role seems to be to sit dutifully behind the Taoiseach while he blathers on, so as to show that “wow, look we do now allow women in the party”!
In reality there really are very few women in the party and they don’t seem to be taken seriously, judging by this sort of demeaning treatment. It reminds me of when I worked in the USA in the 1980’s and the company employed some very good and well-qualified black employees. The great majority of them were very effective and great workers and good people, but unfortunately they were not regarded as equals by most of management as they were thought of as just being employed to meet the colour quota. I wonder is it the same for the few women in the Taoiseach’s party, just there for window-dressing?
As for the other “Fine Failure” party, a few years ago they funked the transfer of the whole Ferrybank area, home to thousands of Waterford people, to the Waterford constituency where they come from and where they belong. If they had had the “liathróidí” to make that transfer from County Kilkenny, the Waterford constituency would now have five TDs and we might get some decent strong representation both female and male for a change. God knows we need it!
There is precedence for this happening as I recall that a substantial chunk of County Clare around the Ennis Road out of Limerick transferred quite rightly to Limerick City some years ago.
