Letter to the Editor: Memories of a wonderful Waterford man

The late Patrick McGrath

Dear Editor,

P J O’Neill (former Editor of the Waterford News & Star) introduced me to Pat 'Mac' McGrath some 20 years ago and I’ve yet to thank him enough. (Pat, of Bellelake, Halfway House, Waterford city sadly passed away on August 26th this year).

The late Patrick McGrath.
The late Patrick McGrath.

Linda and I would visit our Dunmore East cottage 2-3 months each year with expectations of being in this good man’s company as he shared his infinite love for Ireland and its people with a bit of Guinness in-between.

So pleased Mac accepted my invitation as we traveled together through Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Vermont as his gratification and empathy influenced others along the way.

To quote George Bernard Shaw, “The joy of life is to be used for a purpose. I want to be used up when I die.”

Mac embraced Shaw’s advice.

Our deepest condolences to the McGrath Family.

With love,

Tom & Linda Morrissey,
