Victim was left with devastating injuries after being attacked by 13-year-old on the street
Judge Eugene O’Kelly expressed concern over a report handed into the court, which outlined the offender’s absenteeism from school.
A juvenile appeared in Waterford Circuit Court last week over a serious assault he committed when he was 13 years old. The attack had a devastating impact on the victim, leaving him with life-altering injuries.
On May 11, 2024, a male left O’Shea’s Hotel in Tramore and was walking towards the bus depot at Lower Branch Road when he was approached by three males, who knocked him to the ground and started kicking him. The victim suffered a broken neck, which required multiple surgeries. He has lost some mobility in his neck and he has been unable to return to work.
The male who appeared in court last week in connection with the incident is now aged 15. His defence counsel told the court that the boy accepts he punched the victim. He says it was the other two males involved that caused the serious neck injury.
The victim said his life has completely changed since the incident.
“I just want my old life back,” he said in a statement.
The offender has pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. He has offered €5,000 in compensation to the victim.

The matter will return to court in April.
