RECAP: A full timeline of devastating Tycor fire in Waterford city

Saturday May 9

• 6pm: Waterford versus Cork gets underway at Walsh Park. Taoiseach Micheal Martin is in attendance

• 6:39 pm: First 999/112 call is received by Munster Regional Communications Centre for fire in the Tycor area of Waterford city, directly beside Walsh Park

• 6:45 pm: Waterford City Fire Services arrive at the scene of the fire at the Old Jute Factory/Tycor Business Centre and commence operations 

• 8.55pm: Waterford City and County Council’s communications team are notified and public safety information is relayed advising residents in the area to keep windows and doors closed.

• 10:30pm: The Council’s management team/emergency coordination convene a meeting

Sunday May 10 

• 3:30am: Fire is brought under control 

• 9:15am: An interagency meeting is convened between Waterford Council, an HSE Public Health Consultant and Environmental/Asbestos Consultant 

• 10am: Mayor of Waterford, Seamus Ryan, visits the site to meet with emergency services, business owners and residents 

• 10:45am: Council representatives meet with Environmental/Asbestos Consultant and Asbestos Removal Contractor 

• 11am: Updated public safety advice is issued 

• 12pm: Chief Executive of Waterford Council Sean McKeown, Council Environmental team and specialist contractors meet on site 

• 2pm: Fire service dampen surrounding roads, footpaths and driveways into homes and air monitoring commences 

• 3pm: Leaflet drop to all houses in the vicinity of the site 

• 5pm: Fire Services cease operations and leave the site.

• 9:40pm: Reignition of fire is attended by the fire service

 Monday May 11 

• 1:15am: Fire services cease operations and leave the site 

• 7am: Specialised cleaning contractor arrives on site and clean up operations commence 

9am: Minister James Brown TD visits the site and a media doorstep takes place 

• 10:30am: Management team/emergency coordination meeting is held 

• 3:30pm: Interagency meeting between the local authority and the HSE 

• 3:30pm: Contractor commences removal of fire load from Ard Na Greine side with Fire Service 

• 5:45pm: A workshop to be attended by the Plenary Council is convened

 Tuesday May 12 

• 7am: Specialised clean up operations continue 

• 9:15am: Internal emergency co-ordination meeting of the local authority takes place 

1pm: A media release is issued detailing back to business supports for Tycor businesses. The Submit portal goes live 

• 12pm: An interagency meeting between the local authority and the HSE takes place 

• 2pm: A public safety leaflet is dropped to houses in the vicinity of the site 

2:30pm: Minister Burke meets with impacted businesses regarding support packages 

• 4pm: Minister Burke and Chief Executive Sean McKeown speak to the press 

• 5:20pm: Fire service attends reignition at Tycor Avenue/Griffith Place 

• 10pm: Fire Service cease operation and leave the site

Wednesday May 13

• 7am: Specialised cleaning continues 

• 8:45am: Internal emergency co-ordination meeting of the local authority is held 

• 12:20pm: Interagency meeting with local authority and HSE Public Health Consultant is held
