Over €5 million allocated to fix Waterford roads damaged by Storm Chandra

€5.53 million in special funding has been allocated for Waterford local roads that were damaged in late January by Storm Chandra.

The storm caused serious damage to roads in rural county Waterford in particular.

The funding provided today will permit the local authority to undertake necessary work to restore Waterford roads.

Commenting on the allocation, Minister John Cummins said the storm had a severe impact on many communities locally.

“I’d also like to thank Waterford City & County Council for their work in this space. Ground teams have been out in extremely adverse weather conditions to help lessen the severity of their impact. Their commitment and professionalism has helped to protect our local communities during this challenging period in the aftermath of Storm Chandra” Minister Cummins added.

€40 million has been allocated nationally to address the damage caused the storm.

After assessment in March 2026, approximately 130 roads were found to require complete reconstruction and over 440 had significant damage across the country.

Several bridge structures were also damaged and made impassable.
