Waterford groups invited to apply for community funding programme

Grassroots organisations across Waterford are being encouraged to apply for a new funding initiative that will see €40,000 distributed to community projects across Ireland before the end of the year. 

Global online fashion and lifestyle retailer SHEIN has launched its new 'Fabric of the Community' programme, which will provide a €10,000 grant each month to a local organisation working to improve life in its community. 

The scheme is open to a wide range of groups, including charities, sports clubs, youth organisations, social enterprises and community projects. 

Successful applicants can use funding to support new initiatives, improve facilities, expand services or address specific local needs. 

Announcing the initiative, Robin Kiely, SHEIN's EMEA Corporate Communications Director, said the programme reflects the company's commitment to supporting communities across Ireland. 

"Ireland has played an important role in SHEIN's growth in Europe since the establishment of our EMEA headquarters in Dublin in 2023," he said.

"The SHEIN 'Fabric of the Community' programme reflects our commitment to giving back by supporting the local organisations that help communities thrive every day.

"They are at the heart of our communities, powered by dedicated volunteers with often limited resources, yet they make an extraordinary difference every day. We want to recognise their contribution, celebrate their stories and provide meaningful support that helps them continue and expand their important work."

The programme aims to make funding accessible to organisations working directly with communities while recognising the often unseen efforts of volunteers and local leaders. 

Applicants will be asked to complete a short online application outlining their organisation and the community they serve, the challenge or opportunity they are addressing and how the funding would be used. 

One successful organisation will then be selected each month to receive the €10,000 grant. 

Mr Kiely said the initiative would also help highlight the contribution community groups make across the country. 

"Every community has organisations that quietly make an enormous difference to people's lives," he said.

"We hope this programme not only provides funding where it is needed most, but also gives these organisations the recognition they deserve. Ireland is home to an incredible network of local groups creating positive change every day, and we are proud to be able to support them."
