The day will begin and end with yoga

West Waterford Mental Health Awareness has announced its next Community Wellbeing Day will take place at Ballyduff GAA Grounds on Saturday, September 19.

Following the success of the recent wellbeing event in Ballysaggart, the group is continuing its programme of community events across West Waterford, with the aim of bringing people together, encouraging conversation and promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.

Speaking ahead of the event, West Waterford Mental Health Awareness Chairperson Cllr Donnchadh Mulcahy said the purpose of these community days is to make conversations around mental health and wellbeing as open and accessible as possible.

“These days are really about bringing people together. Sometimes something as simple as getting out of the house, meeting people, having a cup of tea, trying a new activity and having a chat can make a real difference,” said Cllr Mulcahy.

The Ballyduff event will begin at 11am with Yoga with Fiona, offering everyone an opportunity to start the day with a relaxing and enjoyable yoga session.

This will be followed at 12pm by tea, coffee and chats, giving people the chance to meet others, have a conversation and enjoy the social side of the day.

From 12.30pm to 1.30pm, there will be a Bags of Hope Workshop, a positive and meaningful session focused on hope, connection and wellbeing.

The day will finish from 2pm to 3pm with Laughing Yoga with Deborah, bringing something a little different to the programme and hopefully plenty of fun and laughter for everyone taking part.

“We had a fantastic day recently in Ballysaggart and we are really looking forward to bringing the next event to Ballyduff. We want these events to be welcoming and relaxed, and they are open to absolutely everyone.

“Promoting positive mental health does not always have to happen in a formal setting. Community, connection and conversation are hugely important, and that is what we are trying to encourage through these day,” said Cllr Mulcahy.

The Community Wellbeing Day is completely free of charge and there is no need to register or book a place. Anyone wishing to take part can simply turn up at Ballyduff GAA Grounds on the day.

West Waterford Mental Health Awareness is encouraging people from Ballyduff and the wider West Waterford community to come along, take part in as much or as little of the programme as they wish, and enjoy the day.
