An iconic Waterford electrical store is closing its doors this week, after 45 years of service.
Wallace's Electrical, located in Arundel Square, is officially closing its doors this weekend with a closing down sale for everything in the store, from vacuum bags and light fixtures to homeware pieces and a key cutting machine.
The sale will run for the rest of the weekend, as stocks last.
The building also listed for sale.
Owners Anne and Pat Wallace told WLR FM's Damien Tiernan although they're sad to see 45 years of business come to an end, the sale will allow customers to stock up on goods and even purchase stock to build their own small business.
Pat spoke to the Waterford News and Star on the shop's closure, saying, "I'm very excited about it; it's going to open up a whole new chapter for me."
"It hasn't been as I expected," he continued "I still miss the place and that's what I never really expected, like I knew I would somewhat but its more than I thought."
It's the customers that'll be missed most for Pat, who described the everyday interactions and conversations with staff with great fondness.
The closing sale, which started Thursday (August 27) morning, seen the shop full to the brim with customers coming in for final goodbyes and well wishes, and to pick up a bargain or two, with many expressing a real sense of loss at the closure of such a long-standing Waterford institution.
Pat finished with the very Irish "It's going to be grand", setting the tone for his retirement nicely.
