Over €30 million earmarked for Waterford road investments

Rice Bridge will receive €3m from the Department of Transport

The Department of Transport has allocated €30.8 million towards Waterford road investments in 2026.

The department announced its €1.5 billion funding strategy on Tuesday, February 17. The total national spend represents a 13% increase from 2025.

€23.2m will be allocated towards regional roads in Waterford, while €7.6m will be invested in national routes.

€3m each will be put towards the N25 Ballinalira Pavement project and Rice Bridge.

A traffic calming scheme at Ballymacarby National School will receive €330,000, while the R680 will get €400,000.

“Maintaining and improving our road network in Waterford is crucial to sustaining and developing local economies across the county,” said Waterford Fianna Fáil TD and Minister of State for Mental Health Mary Butler.

“These roads are imperative for children travelling to school, commuters getting to work safely, people attending medical appointments and a diverse range of additional journeys which are a necessity of everyday life,” said Deputy Butler.

“Central to today’s investment is the need to ensure that the journeys people take around Waterford are as predictable and as safe as possible.

“It’s important for us to acknowledge the central role played by the national and regional road network in connecting communities.”
