Opposition to data centre in Kilmeaden still on agenda

Residents in Kilmeaden still have the opportunity to oppose the proposal to build large data centres in their area.
A meeting will be held at the Sweep Bar from 6pm - 8.15pm on Wednesday September 23 for people to have their say and to organise against the proposals.
It was reported last year that planning permission had been sought by Crag Rathnew DC Limited to construct massive data centres on the site of the former cheese factory in Kilmeaden.
The news garnered widespread criticism due to the calamitous effects of data centres on electricity grids, energy costs, water supply and the environment.
Kilmeaden people have consistently protestedtarget="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> against these plans and are now calling on the community to submit their concerns to the Planning Authority by Monday, September 28.
A decision is expected to be made on the application on October 19.
People living close to data centres have complained of persistent noise pollution, with one couple in Clondalkin describing the noise as akin to 'someone vacuuming directly above them in the middle of the night.'
