Nearly €2 million worth of defects on N25 and N72 roads, says Council

There are road defects to the tune of €2 million on the N25 and N72.

Defects on the N25 and N72 are to the tune of just under €2 million, according to the Roads Department of Waterford City and County Council.

At the May Meeting of Dungarvan-Lismore District, councillors were informed of the latest on progress on local roadwork schemes.

Senior Executive Roads Engineer Maria Goff spoke about the costs to repair the defects during a discussion about surveying.

Labour Councillor Thomas Phelan said: "I think it had been mentioned at the last meeting by Maria (Goff) that there had been a Road Defects Survey. I don't think there has been anything circulated yet. Has there been an announcement yet, or if not, when can we expect one?

"Can we see a list of what we're looking for funding for versus a list of what actually is going to get funded?"

Councillor Tom Cronin (Fianna Fáil) asked about the conditions and schemes along the N25. He said: "Look, it is bad. Maria, you might just fill us in on where we're at."

Ms Goff addressed Councillor Cronin: "In regards to the N25 Burgery Roundabout, it's an Active Travel Scheme and the feasibility options report is currently being updated.

"We got feedback from TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) and we're to carry out a traffic modelling and traffic impact assessment in that area. So that feasibility options report has to be updated. This will take a couple of weeks to do."

According to Ms Goff, TII will be consulted to carry out a strip method analysis to identify areas that may need 'pavement overlaid' in the future.

She continued: "I suppose our priority at the moment is the N25 Ballinalira Pavement repairment, servicing works will be carried out over there over two years, this year and next year.

"The funding that has been allocated for this year is €3 million."

It was heard that €168,000 had been allocated for defects along the N25 and N72. According to Ms Goff: "What we have logged on our TII defect system there is almost €2 million of defects on the N25 and N72, so we have to prioritise those."
