Man caught with €900 of cocaine in 2022 has 'turned his life around'
The Garda intervention became a “triggering moment” in his life and, resultingly, he has not come to any adverse garda attention since.
A man who was caught by Gardaí with €900 worth of cocaine in his pocket in 2022, has since turned his life around, Waterford District Court heard last week.
On December 11, 2022, at 2.30am on John Street, Gardaí spoke to a man who appeared unsteady on his feet.
The man, John Flynn, of Ardeenlone, Kilmeaden, had 13 grams of cocaine on him, worth approximately €900. He pleaded guilty and has no previous convictions.
His solicitor, Kenneth Cunningham, said that Mr. Flynn was 22 at the time, and had a cocaine problem.
The Garda intervention became a “triggering moment” in his life and, resultingly, he has not come to any adverse garda attention since.
He later emigrated to Australia, where he now works full-time. A very positive report from his employer was submitted to the court.
Judge Kevin Staunton described Flynn as a “hardworking man” who has “turned his life around”.
Flynn was ordered to pay €1,200 to the court's poor box.
He paid the fee and the matter was struck out.
