Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, May and June, West Waterford

Blackwater Valley Opera Festival returns from May 26 to June 1, bringing over 5,000 visitors to Waterford and beyond for a week of opera, concerts and recitals.

The headline opera, Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Lismore Castle, is now sold out. A number of events are also fully booked or nearing capacity, with tickets still available across the rest of the programme.

Performances take place in Lismore Castle, St Carthage’s Cathedral and a network of houses, estates and outdoor settings across the Blackwater Valley.

Dromore Yard anchors the June Bank Holiday weekend, with concerts set along the river in a private outdoor setting. Audiences travel into West Waterford for performances by artists including Niamh O’Sullivan with Gary Beecher, Finghin Collins and Dearbhla Collins, and Magdalene Ho with Pierre Génisson and Elias David Moncado.

This and much more is available throughout the festival.

Moonshine, April 15 to April 18, Garter Lane Theatre

The protestant church is closing down, and the local undertaker is determined to stage a version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Around these facts, Jim Nolan builds a moving and memorable play in which members of a motley cast search for their private resurrections.

Gerry Kane, Bill Stafford, Ben Di Placido, Paula Weldon, Caitlin Whelan and Kieran Walsh star in this much loved and previously enjoyed production.

Mad Ferritt, April 5, Theatre Royal

Mad Ferritt are the definitive Oasis tribute band consisting of a group of musicians from Waterford.

The aim of the band is to put together a Tribute show that mimics the raw power and swagger of an Oasis live show in their heyday.

The lads pay particular detail to re-creating the famous Oasis Wall of Sound.

Following their sell out shows in successive years since 2017, the lads make a long awaited return to the Theatre Royal Waterford, where they will blend their regular full electric show with the famous Oasis ‘MTV Unplugged’ set list that was broadcast back in 1996 with acoustic versions of Oasis anthems, accompanied by a full 14 piece band with string and brass sections.
