Final preparations underway on new Waterford play 

Seeking shelter from a terrible storm, a group of campers find themselves stranded and embroiled in a complex, suspicious stew, as a gathering of wealthy elites attempt to solve the untimely murder of their gracious host.

But, all is not as it seems, as supernatural forces begin to rear their head and threaten foul vengeance upon the esteemed party of millionaires, celebrities and high ranking officials.

Horrors await, and so too does revenge at Hotel Rapscallion!

This September, Waterford Youth Arts in association with Garter Lane Arts Centre present ‘Revenge at Hotel Rapscallion’ by Mary O’Donoghue and Directed by Liam Meagher.

Mary O’Donoghue is a young playwright, actor, performance poet and creative writing lead at Waterford Youth Arts.

In theatre, she has appeared in Waterford Youth Arts’ production of Orwell’s Animal Farm directed by Rhiann Jeffrey and Waterford Youth Arts’ production of Romeo and Juliet directed by Jim Nolan at Wyse Park in 2021.

Her performance as Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet earned Mary a nomination for a Waterford News & Star Green Room Awards.

Mary is creative writing lead with Waterforfd Youth Arts, supporting young people every Saturday to explore the world of words at Waterford Central Library. Mary is a writing facilitator with Fighting Words Waterford.

Liam Meagher has been working with young people and children in the arts in Waterford for more than 35 years.

He directed the very first Waterford Youth Arts summer project in 1996 and has always loved working at the Arch.

Liam has a long association with Little Red Kettle and has also worked with youth groups in the city as well as a great many students of schools in the city over the years.

Liam said he feels “very privileged to be working with the fabulous, up and coming young writer Mary O’Donoghue on her new play.” 

Waterford Youth Arts is the home of the arts for young people in Waterford.

For more than forty years, it has supported and encouraged young people to create art that excites and inspires them.

Co-producing with Garter Lane Arts Centre, youth theatre Summer Project has become a cornerstone of Waterford Youth Arts annual calendar.

Last year’s summer production Stories Sketched in Glass directed by Veronica Coburn was selected as Best Youth Production in Waterford News and Star Green Room Awards.
