As part of the 2026 Bealtaine Festival, Waterford Libraries were delighted to host a special Dawn Chorus event at Dunmore East Library, Co. Waterford on Sunday, May 10th.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Seamus Ryan opened the event with a warm and welcoming speech noting the importance of libraries and the Arts in local communities.
“Two months ago I joined a choir, called Sing for Joy and it lives up to its name," he said.
“Today, the festival brings people together from all walks of life to foster and inspire creativity among older people, and to celebrate the skills, experiences, and talents that contribute to a rich and fulfilling creative life," added Mayor Ryan.
The Dawn Chorus saw the Bealtaine Library Choir perform in the gardens behind Dunmore East Library, offering the attendees stunning views over Dunmore East harbour.
A spokesperson for Waterford Libraries said: "With blue skies overhead and the sun shining across the bay, it was a perfect morning for a music and community celebration."
The choir was led by Anne Woodworth, whose enthusiasm and direction helped create a wonderful atmosphere.

Following the performance, the more than 100 people in attendance enjoyed a cuppa and refreshments, while sharing in the sense of community and creativity that made the event so special.
The event was supported by Europe Direct Waterford.
The annual Bealtaine Festival – Ireland’s national festival celebrating the arts and ageing is a highly anticipated event on the library calendar.
This year is no different with several events taking place in all branches.
