Ferrybank Shopping Centre still 'on agenda'
Ferrybank Shopping Centre, February 2026.
Councillors in Ferrybank will be meeting with Waterford Metropolitan Council early next month.
The event will mark the first gathering between the neighbouring councils since the recent fallout over Ferrybank Shopping Centre.
In late 2025, Waterford City and County Council launched an appeal against the development of the long-dormant complex, a move that provoked anger and disappointment across Waterford and Kilkenny.
Waterford Council launched the appeal after parent company Dunnes Stores was granted permission to adapt the shopping centre and redevelop the first floor into a leisure area.
A hearing date for the judicial review is due to take place on June 11 this year.
At the February meeting of the Piltown Municipal District, executive Marie Phelan informed the councillors about the launch of the "new Waterford Metropolitan area Walking and Cycling Index" on March 5. She continued: "I was in correspondence with Waterford in relation to a joint meeting with the Metropolitan district."
The council agreed on having the meeting at the Rhu Glenn Hotel before their monthly meeting.
Councillor Ger Frisby commented: "Ferrybank Shopping Centre, we want to keep that on the agenda. Even though there might not be any update and I know we have a judicial review, I'd prefer it was on it."
