Exciting additions planned at one of Waterford' favourite attractions

A new visitor attraction is planned at Waterford Suir Valley Railway.

Planning application submitted this week outlines intentions to develop a brand new "visitor attraction and railway heritage experience."

The development will comprise the display of equipment, rolling stock and other railway associated items and will include an educational section featuring virtual reality presentations.

A decision on the planning application is expected from the local authority by May 18.

The railway has become an integral part of the tourism offering in the south east.

The attraction continues to grow, and the railway also has plans to return steam to Waterford. Kettering Furnaces No. 3, a 3ft narrow gauge steam locomotive, gifted to WSVR by the National Trust, UK is currently being restored in Darlington by Northern Heritage Engineering, specialists in restoring and building railway rolling stock.

The restoration project is dependent on funds raised through donations and it's hoped to have work completed by 2027.
