The long-dormant Ferrybank Shopping Centre.

Dunnes Stores has responded 'positively' to Kilkenny County Council's retail strategy for the long dormant Ferrybank Shopping Centre.

Director of Services for Kilkenny Ian Gardner told the January meeting of the Piltown Municipal District that the Council expects to meet Dunnes Stores to discuss its proposals for the shopping centre.

"At the last meeting I reported that Planning had followed up with Dunnes Stores regarding a letter previously sent by the Chief Executive," Mr Gardner said.

"The letter informed Dunnes Stores that the preparation of the draft Masterplan for Ferrybank/Belview was at an advanced stage and that the Council would like the opportunity to engage with them to brief them on the plan and to ascertain their views."

He then outlined Dunnes Stores response to this communication from Kilkenny County Council.

"Since the last meeting, Dunnes has responded in what is considered a positive manner," Mr Gardner said.

He continued: "Planning will now arrange to meet with Dunnes Stores to discuss the draft masterplan, including Dunnes Stores' proposals for the Ferrybank Shopping Centre."
