Oireachtas members from across the South East met at Leinster House to discuss the campaign to deliver funding for the N24, Waterford to Cahir upgrade.

The meeting, organised by Waterford TD, David Cullinane, was attended by TDs and Senators from Waterford, Kilkenny, and Tipperary to discuss how they can collaborate to deliver for the south-east.

Following the meeting, Deputy Cullinane issued a statement welcoming "the broad commitment" from TDs and Senators representing Waterford, Kilkenny, and Tipperary to work together to deliver funding for the N24 Waterford to Cahir upgrade.

Deputy Cullinane said to Waterford News & Star that he convened a group of Oireachtas members from Waterford, Kilkenny, and Tipperary in the hopes of coordinating to advocate for funding for the N24 upgrade from Waterford to Cahir.

The transport upgrade is being delivered by Kilkenny and Tipperary County Councils in conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Department of Transport, the project is currently in Phase 2 of four development stages, 'Options Selection'.

“It has been over a year since the preferred route, including bypasses Carrick-on-Suir, Mooncoin, and Kilsheelan, was announced," Deputy Cullinane noted, saying the project needs just €7.9 million in funding over the next three years.

The proposed development is approximately 60km in length, extending from the M8 Junction 10, Cahir North Roundabout, to the Quarry Roundabout, on the M9 Dublin to Waterford motorway just to the north of Waterford City in Co. Kilkenny.

Several similar proposed N24 projects failed to proceed to statutory planning phases due to the inability to procure funding to progress through development phases.
