Local Notes: Stradbally Market, tidy towns, Ireland Lights Up, coastal erosion concern and more

Stradbally Market is very popular
There will be blessing of candles and throats after the 7pm vigil mass on Saturday evening, next, February 1, for the feast of St. Blaise. You may bring your own candles along if you wish.
The owner of XL Stores in Stradbally, Robert Gough has installed an Eco Planter. However, this is no ordinary planter, the unit is designed to reuse rain water from the down pipe next to it to hydrate the plants. Robert works separately in retail store design and construction of retail premises. His company BWG has implemented these eco units in various retail premises across Dublin and has won an environmental award from Dublin City Council for installing these units outside retail premises there. Robert, in recognition of the hard work Stradbally Tidy Towns committee has carried out in the village and the awards they have brought to the village every year, felt it was important to install the first Eco Planter in County Waterford in support of the local tidy towns committee, local biodiversity, and the local community. Well done Robert for your forward thinking.
Stradbally GAA & LGFC are delighted to have registered for Ireland Lights Up. The walks/run began on Monday, January 20, and will continue for six Mondays, until February 24. The walk takes place on the new walkway and lights are on each Monday from 7pm to 8pm. All are welcome to get involved and you do not need to be a member of the club to take part. It is open to the whole community. Children must be accompanied by an adult. High Viz vests must be worn by all. Participants can determine their own pace from leisure walk to a run. All participants must sign in at the GAA Centre before each walk/run.
Ballyvooney Cove has suffered from the adverse weather conditions of the past few weeks. There has been serious rock fall from the cliffs on both sides of the cove recently. Anyone visiting the beach should take care when sitting or walking close to the bottom of the cliffs or close to the edge of the cliffs as the ground is so uncertain.
Another full house at the market on Saturday at the Cove Bar. The conversations on the day were all storm related. The producers did not disappoint and were lucky that the electricity did not go off in Stradbally and spoil all the baking. The tables were laden with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, brown, bread, curran bread, scones, tarts, fancy buns, jams, marmalade, relish, fresh eggs. There was lots of tea drinking and chat going on sitting by the warm stoves. You can preorder any of the produce for sale by calling Margaret on 087 6337215. Do drop in any Saturday and sample the atmosphere of the market from 10am onwards.
