Blood Transfusion Service

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will visit Waterford during the week commencing Monday, October 14 to Wednesday, October 23. The IBTS is currently experiencing very low stocks of all blood groups and is urgently seeking to increase the supply by an additional 500 units weekly for the next four weeks in order to meet hospital demand. We urge everyone to support the IBTS where possible as it’s such a vital service.

Congratulations

A huge well done to our footballers who beat Rathgormack recently after a great game of football in a wet and miserable Carrickbeg, to secure Premier Intermediate status again for 2025. Mackey's MOTM goes to Fredo Dee. Well done to all players and management involved. The full time score was Portlaw 2-13 v Rathgormack 2-7.

Portlaw Utd

Our u10s had their first blitz of the season in the paddock recently and they all played brilliantly throughout their three games, scoring loads and defending very well, especially considering it was some of the girls first soccer match. Well done girls and keep up the hard work.

Premier League Result:  Waterford Crystal 0-3 Portlaw. We kept up our good form with a recent strong away win to Waterford Crystal. We started well and created plenty of chances before Jordan Myler opened the scoring when he neatly finished after a great ball by John Power. Michael O’Grady got his 1st goal for the club when he made it 2-0 just before the break. Into the second half and Crystal created a couple of really good chances with Stefan pulling off a couple of great saves to keep the clean sheet intact. Our third goal arrived when a great cross from Peter Woods was met by 15-year-old Samuel Deevy to give him his first Premier League goal - and sure there are many more to come. A great moment came at the end of the game when (40-something-year-old) Johnnie Mullowney was introduced as a sub and played the last 10 mins at centre back with his son Cian. It was a great win for the lads and keeps our good form going. Next up is a home game on Sunday against Tycor in the second round of the FAI Junior Cup.

U17 League Result: Ferrybank 1-4 Portlaw. The team sponsor was Pat Kerley Windows & Doors. We travelled to Ferrybank for the second time in a week; this time in the league after the recent exciting cup win. The first half was pretty even with defences on top. We played some really good football but just couldn’t find the killer pass. We opened the scoring early in the second half when a Samuel Deevy cross was finished by Sam Croke. Sam turned provider soon after when he set up Kevin Lyons for our second goal. A quickly taken free kick by Samuel set Alfie Keane away who hit a brilliant angled shot to put us 3-0 up. Alfie rounded off a great team performance when he latched onto a great through ball and rounded the keeper to tap home.
