Scout Group

Congratulations to the 36th Waterford Tramore Bay Scout Group's, T-Bay scouts who achieved a gold award recently at the Phoenix Challenge in Cork. These eight young people are a credit to themselves, their parents and 36TH Waterford Tramore Bay Scout Group. They worked so hard to get to the finals, and to come away with Gold at their first visit is simply brilliant. The Phoenix Challenge is Scouting Ireland's national scout craft competition.

Tramore Eco Group

Tramore Eco Group were at Tramore Beach recently, where members of the Maharees Conservation Association provided a demonstration of best practice on installing chestnut fencing to protect sand dune habitat. There was also a guided tour of dunes and salt marsh habitats. On Tuesday last, Dr Tasneem Khan gave a talk, then we looked in the rock pools by the Ladies Slip, identifying the many different species of animal and plant life here in Tramore Bay. It was very interesting and informative. Tasneem Khan is a biologist, photographer and educator with a decade of experience in ecology, conservation, education, and science communication. She has leveraged her formal training in marine zoology to develop interdisciplinary initiatives and experiential learning, notably as Director of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Environmental Team, Centre for Island Ecology. Also, last Tuesday the group had a walk with Robbie Galvin, a geologist from the Copper Coast Geopark, who will help us identify common beach rocks, as well as pointing out features of the geological structures of our immediate area.
