It is with regret we record the sad passing of Nicky Haberlin, Milepost, Slieverue, on Friday, September 13, aged 70 years. A popular tradesman, Nicky was predeceased by his parents Nick and Alice, sister Nellie (Walsh). Nicky will be sadly missed by his loving wife Ann (née: Doyle), his children Kevin, Colm, Nicola (Flynn) and Steven, son-in-law Mark, daughters-in-law Nadia, Issy and Nicole, his cherished grandchildren, brothers Michael and Eddie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and his many friends. The huge attendance at Nicky's funeral was a testament to the high regard in which he was held by the community of Slieverue. He was very well known in the area, educated in the local national school, and the Tech, and was a former Chairman of Slieverue GAA Club. He also sold Ferrybank AFC lotto tickets. Nicky was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon following Requiem Mass in the Church of The Assumption, Slieverue.
The Piltown Municipal District has noted a significant public response to the proposed Ferrybank/Belview Local Area Plan (LAP), following a well-attended information session at Abbey Community College in Ferrybank. Over 100 residents participated, raising concerns and asking questions about the development. Acting Director of Services, Denis Malone, highlighted several key challenges facing the project including transport, recreational needs, and housing density issues. Specific concerns were voiced regarding plans for the Gyles Quay area and the impact of proposed industrial developments in Belview. The first official draft of the new LAP is expected to be released in early October, with a public event planned to accompany its publication. Further submissions will be invited, and the revised plan is anticipated to be formally adopted by early 2025.
