At a very enjoyable function in Dunphy's Pub, Kill, on Friday, January 31, proceeds from the 2024 Michael Power Christmas Day Memorial Swim were presented to Richard Burke, the chairperson of the Boatstrand Safety Centre. The event raised €8,679 much to the delight of all involved. Darren Power presented the cheque and thanked all the swimmers who took the dip on Christmas Day, everyone who contributed to the bucket collection, all who sponsored the swimmers. He thanked Centra supermarket, Kilmacthomas and Kilmeaden, for allowing the bucket collection, Bunmahon Lifeguards, Portlaw Red Cross, the Irish Coastguard, local papers, WLRfm and anyone who contributed to the success of the swim in anyway. Richard Burke spoke of future plans and events for the centre. A presentation was also made to Paudie Dunphy, proprietor of Dunphy's Pub, for his support of the swim down through the years. His pub is always available for our quiz night and presentation night, and for his much appreciated hot toddies on Christmas morning. The night continued with wonderful song and music from the Metalmen. Thanks also to photographer, John Power.
The Gealach Gorm Theatre, on Saturday, April 12, at 8pm, will be the venue for a brand new show by Anne Gildea, the woman who taught you 'How to Get The Menopause and Enjoy It'. The new show, 'Further Adventures in Womaning', will be a night of hilarity at the venue. Join us as Anne explores the world of the feminine, the mammy, the twerky dancer - from 18-hour girdles and Housewives of the Year and ripped influencer grannies pumping iron on Insta, to the Sunday drive to the spa break and Angel Delight to Ozempic, and back to the chiffon scarf test. Anne weaves a pant-wetting path through a changing half century of womany stuff - and that’s just the tip of the Anneburg.
