After a prolonged closure that disrupted traffic in the area, Abbey Road has fully reopened to the public. Initially expected to reopen before the start of the school term, the road remained closed for an extended period to accommodate essential works, including the construction of a deep foul sewer, a new retaining wall, and various finishing touches. While the road is now open, caution is still advised as some works continue in the vicinity. Bus services, provided by JJ Kavanagh, have been reinstated, and vehicular access to school drop-off points is now available from both Fountain Street and Abbey Road. On the River Suir, significant progress can be seen with the removal of cofferdams, and the bridge supports and piers for the new sustainable transport bridge are now visible. In addition, the steel deck substructure, fabricated in Belgium, is complete, and the installation of mechanical and electrical components is underway. The overall project, which includes a new railway station building, is steadily taking shape, with the design of the station earning praise for its appearance.

Great news on the Greenway as the surface is being laid where it passes the Rhu Glenn in Slieverue, moving towards Waterford. This section will span just over 6km once completed. The Greenway is still under construction and there is currently no public access. It is still hoped that the section of the South-East Greenway running from Ferrybank to the Rhu Glenn will be opened to the public in the first quarter of 2025. Excitement is building around the project, which now includes the development of a link road between Abbey Gate Retail Park and the Aldi Roundabout. The ongoing transformation of Ferrybank is advancing smoothly, with hopes that within a year, the area will become an even better place to live and work.
On Saturday, August 31, Teresa O’Brien (née: Walsh), 13 Aylesbury Avenue, Ferrybank, and Airmount, Slieverue, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, at University Hospital Waterford.
